Tatajuba is a magical place! In the middle of the last century, this community of fishermen and farmers had their village buried by impressive moving sand dunes. Nowadays, in search of more secure places, they had to occupy different spaces, forming four villages: Nova Tatajuba, Vila São Francisco, Baixa da Tatajuba e Vila Nova.
Twice a day, Nova Tatajuba is isled when a strip of sea is taken by the high tide waters. On top of Morro Branc, the closest dune to the sea, the panoramic view of the area is simply breathtaking! Even more stunning is the sunset over there – the beauty is indescribable!
The community has a historic resistance against real estate speculators for the luxury tourism; its greater pressure resulted in its heavenly beauty and proximity to Jericoacoara.
The ACOMOTA, the residents’ association that has been acting amongst these problems, has been strengthened with different territorial development projects and more recently with community-based tourism.
Besides the lush nature, the stories of life and struggle of the residents are strong elements of the community’s cultural patrimony.
